Setting Up Bulk Messaging

Sending bulk messages from Salesforce is one of the primary advantages of choosing Message for Salesforce for your institution. While the platform allows you to send 1:1 messages effortlessly, setting up bulk messaging requires some additional configuration.

To enable bulk messaging for a program, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Set up field mapping
  2. Enable data sync
  3. Enable messaging

By following these steps, you will be ready to utilize the bulk messaging feature in Message for Salesforce.

Setting Up Field Mapping

To set up field mapping in Message for Salesforce, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Programs section and click on the program for which you want to set up field mapping. The initial tab in your Program configuration is called "Fields." Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Edit" button to begin.

  2. Start by specifying the Salesforce Object, which represents the person you'll be syncing with in Salesforce. Once you've selected the object, indicate the field that corresponds to the mobile phone field. You can also set the field direction for the mobile phone field. We typically recommend selecting "From Salesforce to Message," but you can choose bi-directional if desired.

  3. After providing the required information mentioned above, the remaining fields are optional. You can map as many or as few fields as you prefer. Keep in mind that only the fields that are mapped will be available as merge fields in your bulk messages.

  4. Once you have finished mapping your fields according to your preferences, click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

Enabling Data Sync and Messaging

After completing the field mapping, return to the Programs tab. You should now be able to toggle the Data Sync button to the ON position. If you are unable to move the toggle, it indicates that the field mapping is incomplete. In that case, please review your work and make any necessary corrections.

Next to the Data Sync toggle, you will find the Messaging toggle. Make sure to enable it by switching it to the ON position as well.

Bulk Messaging is Ready - Let's Get Started!

Once the field mapping is properly set, and both data sync and messaging are enabled, you can proceed with bulk messaging. Go to the Inbox, and you should see the "New Message" button. All the programs you have configured will be available for messaging.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why did I have to perform all of these steps?

A: The reason behind this process is that all bulk messages require sharing each field used as a merge field with Message. Field mapping allows us to access and utilize these fields on your behalf.

Q: I completed the setup, but the "New Message" button is still not visible.

A: Go to SV Messaging > Settings > Message Settings and ensure that the option "Do not allow users to send bulk messages" is disabled.
