How do you add contacts?

You have 3 ways to add contacts. One way is to upload your contacts in a csv file under the Programs tab, then select the Import Contacts tab. The other way is to manually add a single contact. Last, you can set up automatic imports with support!

Is there an option to add student's preferred names (as separate from their birth name) in the contact form?

Yes, In your Manage Fields tab you can create a new custom field labeled preferred name (something like "preferred_name). You will then create a column in your data file for preferred_name and upload the information!

How do you get the students' phone numbers, and how much do you explicitly ask for permission to use them?

This process will be unique for each type of institution. You likely already have rules for collecting phone numbers via your legal department! We often suggest making sure anytime you collect phone numbers to have on the collection sheet something to the effect of "By signing up I'm giving permission to receive texts on my phone." 

So to get and keep GPA data in the program, for example, we would need to download, update, and reupload each semester?

You will want to make sure you have a custom field created. Once you have that field created you will just need to make sure that your GPA custom field is in your file and make sure you have that box checked when updating contact information.

We use the setting to automatically mark as no action needed, but I notice messages are not always moved. Why is that?

Sorry to hear that. Could you send us some examples to us at message-support@moderncampus.com. So we can take a deep look into this for you. Before sending us any screenshots, you can send us an email first and we can create a sharepoint folder so you can upload those screenshots to us. We want to make sure that we do not send PII through email!

Can students (recipients of messages) reply to our message, unless we select that no response is needed in settings?

All contacts will be able to send text messages back to you. You do, however, have the option to restrict sending MMS (picture messages).

Does Modern Campus doesn't sync with programs like SalesForce or PeopleSoft?

We do offer some methods for automatic imports including SalesForce! Contact message-support@moderncampus.com to discuss the options that are best for you.
