How do I send a "campaign" message?

Do you have a list or .csv file of less than 1000 contacts and do NOT need to save recipient data? Try a bulk message.

Why Use A Campaign Field?

When you need to send an adhoc message to a group of students that cannot be adequately covered by your existing data AND you need to save the recipient data try a custom "campaign" field.

Often, users create temporary group_lists for these one-off messages or campaigns. However, this approach can result in a long list of group_lists in the program drop-down menu and may even disrupt counselor access to specific group_list caseloads.

Create a Custom "Campaign" Field Type

  1. Your first step is to create a "campaign" field because it is not automatically available in Message. To create a custom field, go to the Programs tab and select "Manage Fields."
  2. Click on the "Add Custom Field" button.Screenshot 2024-06-20 at 11.13.40 AM.png
  3. Enter "campaign" as the Field Name and "campaign" as the Display Name.
  4. Choose "String" as the Field Type.Screenshot 2024-06-20 at 11.13.51 AM.png

Import Your Campaign Data:

  1. Create a spreadsheet file with "customer_id" and "campaign" fields. Name your campaign something unique, such as the date, so it won't repeat in later campaigns. Screenshot_2023-05-22_at_11.09.51_AM.png
  2. Save as a CSV file. Screenshot_2023-05-22_at_11.10.36_AM.png
  3. In Message, go to the "Programs" tab.
  4. Select the appropriate Program.
  5. Navigate to the "Import Contacts" tab.
  6. Click on the "Import Contacts" button.Screenshot 2024-06-20 at 11.14.14 AM.png
  7. Choose your CSV file.
  8. How do you want to handle the contacts in your file?
    • Unselect "Import new contacts."
    • Select "Update existing contacts."
    • Select "Campaign."
  9. How do you want to handle errors?
    • Select "Skip the contact and continue the import"
  10. Click on the "Start Import" button.Screenshot 2024-06-20 at 11.14.38 AM.png

Send Your Campaign Message:

  1. Note that it may take anywhere from 15 – 90 minutes for your campaign data to sync in Message depending on the date / time of upload.
  2. Go to the "Contacts" tab.
  3. Select the relevant Program from the left side panel.
  4. Click on "advanced search" located under the search bar.
  5. Select "Add Criteria."
  6. Choose "campaign" as the attribute.
